The Government Accountability Office (GAO) and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) did regular audits of the federal government’s Information Technology projects. Federal spending on IT investments exceeded $60 billion each year in FY 2004 to FY 2008, and topped $70 billion in FY 2009.

Brad Miller, chairman of the Subcommittee on Investigations and Oversight of the Committee on Science and Technology to the Inspector General of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, dated August 21.2008.
