John Oliver went to Moscow to interview Edward Snowden. His segment on surveillance and Section 215 of the USA PATRIOT Act is not to be missed. Unfortunately, Oliver falls into the misinformed trap of asserting that Section 215 does something to advance our "safety," when the facts show otherwise. Nonetheless, he argues persuasively that the country should have a robust debate about the surveillance powers in advance of their potential reauthorization in June.
Dragnet surveillance doesn't advance public safety, and it's authoritarian. Take action to tell your elected representatives to let the most dangerous parts of the PATRIOT Act expire in June 2015.
