Some pretty creative coders created a program enabling smartphone users to text updates about police movements, break away demonstrations, medical crises and more to a constantly-updated map: #OccupyMap.
Users who want to submit to the map can either email the people running the service, tweet the information using the #OccupyMap hashtag, or fill out a form on their website.
While the NYPD has their own methods of surveillance, the #OccupyMaps project enables real-time, crowd-sourced information about the boys in blue and more, keeping protesters in the loop and helping those of us watching online get a better sense of the larger picture. Great work!
