Boston Dynamics keeps building creepier robots for the DARPA robotics challenge, which offers a prize of $2 million to the winning team.

The latest toy, shown in the video above, can climb stairs like a human being. But it is only a matter of time before the robots far surpass human potential in terms of movement range, speed and other abilities.

When those stair climbing skills are combined with the quirky talents of Boston Dynamics' other robots — which include jumping thirty feet into the air; running as fast as a cheetah; and stumbling and catching oneself when kicked over — they will produce a mighty fearsome hunk of metal indeed.

I certainly wouldn't want to be chased by something like that.
