ACLU of Massachusetts Executive Director Carol Rose discusses our Boston Police spying lawsuit and report with Emily Rooney and one of our clients, Pat Scanlon, of Veterans for Peace. The Boston Police Department was invited to participate in the program but declined. In a radio program earlier the same day, a BPD spokeswoman said the department doesn't collect or retain information absent a criminal nexus. It's too bad she declined to participate in the television program, because she could have given Pat some answers about why he was classified as an extremist and a criminal threat.
The BPD has said that files were retained improperly, in violation of the BPD's own guidelines, due to a “computer glitch.”
