Binney should know what he is talking about. For some 40 years, he worked with the giant NSA and was instrumental in automating its worldwide eavesdropping network. He told James Bamford why he left the NSA in 2001:

In this video, Occupy Wall Street activists call on the movement to support their fellow New Yorkers, Muslims who have come under undue police surveillance simply because of their religion.
In what might be the coolest news of the day, the torrents website The Pirate Bay -- much despised by the recording and film industries, and harassed by prosecutors and police the world over -- has announced that it plans to store its servers on drones. The group says the Air Force is the only thing that could take down their operation once the system is mobile.

How is it possible to rein in an out-of-control police force with nearly 40,000 sworn officers, thousands of support staff, an annual budget of $3.9 billion, a enough military weapons to outfit an army, a culture of total impunity and a political establishment that is solidly on its side?

The ACLU of Northern California is representing three young people pepper sprayed by a UC Davis police officer in a suit against the university police. The students were protesting tuition hikes that would prevent at least one of them from graduating. Watch.
